Ipswich, Suffolk, United Kingdom WTW Full time

A position has opened within the GB Financial Controllership division for a Lead Financial Accountant primarily engaging with the Willis Limited Finance team. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated, enthusiastic, and proactive professional, possessing a recognized accounting qualification and at least two years of post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a professional services environment or a medium to large enterprise.

The successful applicant will thrive in a dynamic and ambitious team, with opportunities to connect across the organization where each day presents unique challenges. There are numerous development opportunities available within the WTW Controllership Team, and success in this role will require collaboration with various finance teams and other stakeholders throughout the organization. This role also includes the responsibility of managing and mentoring a direct report.

The WTW Financial Controllership division operates across multiple teams and locations. While this role encompasses responsibilities that span the wider group, the primary focus will be on financial accounting and statutory and regulatory reporting for Willis Limited, WTW's principal UK FCA regulated insurance intermediary. The WTW Controllership Team is dedicated to enhancing structured processes and controls, aiming for consistency and efficiency through the increased use of technology and automation, aligned with WTW's broader financial objectives. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing these enhancements, collaborating with the wider Finance team both in the UK and internationally.

The Controllership function is committed to team development through an online training platform that supports various process improvement and automation initiatives. The successful candidate will be encouraged to actively participate in these efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

As a senior member of the team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing accounting and reconciliation activities for critical components of the Willis Limited monthly close cycle;
  • Managing end-to-end Revenue Recognition controls and processes for insurance broking activities, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards. This core responsibility acts as a bridge between operational teams and finance business partners to guarantee accurate revenue recognition accounting and reporting. This includes accounting policy documentation, training, SOX control design and operation, and coordination of month-end revenue accrual and deferral activities, as well as managing external audit requirements.
  • Supporting this activity will involve supervising at least one direct report and collaborating with our offshore service provider.
  • Reviewing journal entries and reconciliation activities conducted by junior colleagues and offshore accounting partners;
  • Applying and documenting accounting policies under US GAAP and FRS101;
  • Serving as a key liaison with both internal and external audit teams for statutory and SOX audit activities;
  • Completing quarterly and ad-hoc regulatory returns and requests;
  • Engaging in specific FCA CASS5 client money activities, including client money calculation reconciliation preparation and liquidity and cash flow analysis;
  • Assisting in the reconciliation and analysis of the insurance broking ledger;
  • Contributing to the preparation of monthly balance sheet review reporting, including KPI analysis of revenue accruals and deferrals;
  • Supporting the broader WTW Financial Controllership function in identifying, designing, and implementing control and process improvements, including through new technology and automation;
  • In addition to regular month-end activities, you will also engage in a significant volume of ad-hoc project work, providing opportunities to collaborate with other areas of the WTW Group Finance organization.
