Position Overview: The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications for the role of Financial Accountant. This is a permanent position that offers flexibility regarding the work location, with a commitment to full-time hours totaling 35 per week.

Key Responsibilities: The successful applicant will play a vital role in delivering accountancy services across various functions, including:

  • Capital Accounting
  • Management of Fixed Assets
  • Cash Flow Oversight
  • General Ledger Maintenance
  • Preparation of Year-End Accounts

The incumbent will ensure that all statutory and regulatory obligations are consistently met.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a recognized accountancy qualification and be a current member of a professional accountancy organization, such as CIPFA, ICAS, ACCA, or CIMA. Adherence to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) standards is essential.

Experience: A background in a multi-functional Finance Department is necessary, along with proven experience in preparing year-end accounts.

  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong teamwork abilities across diverse tasks

Exceptional oral and written communication skills are crucial, as is a proactive approach to initiating improvements in current practices.

Desirable Attributes: Familiarity with the public sector is preferred, and candidates should ideally hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification. Those currently pursuing a professional accountancy qualification may also be considered, with a minimum requirement of an HNC or similar in Accountancy or a finance-related field.

Salary and Progression: Initial salary placement will typically be at the lower end of the scale, with opportunities for progression based on performance reviews. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a higher starting salary based on demonstrated experience.
