Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to facilitate and enhance leadership and development within maternity services in a dynamic and challenging environment, aligned with a clear vision and strategy for the future of maternity care.

The Senior Maternity Services Manager will play a pivotal role in assisting the Head of Midwifery, fostering essential working relationships to support the implementation of national and regional directives aimed at improving the safety and quality of maternity services.

This position will involve establishing and nurturing strong connections with the Maternity Network and Voluntary Partnership (MNVP), ensuring collaborative efforts in the co-production of maternity services. The role will also support identified provider and MNVP-led initiatives to enhance the experiences of women and families.

The Senior Manager will exemplify visible and approachable leadership within maternity services, adopting a coaching and mentoring approach to foster staff development, innovation, and resilience within the department.

The post holder will maintain operational oversight of maternity services, providing direct support in the daily management of these services while assisting the Head of Midwifery in developing robust operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Head and Director of Midwifery, Divisional Management team, and Clinical Directors to provide professional and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of a safe, high-quality service while achieving financial objectives by:

  • Engaging closely with key partner organizations and stakeholders to implement service developments in accordance with Trust, local, and national guidelines.
  • Providing leadership and direction to staff within women's services.
  • Leading initiatives to enhance women's experiences, ensuring feedback is utilized for service improvements.
  • Overseeing various portfolios based on service needs in collaboration with the senior leadership team.
  • Balancing operational demands with future planning and managing associated changes.
  • Effectively managing human and financial resources while ensuring robust financial planning.
  • Monitoring and reviewing service performance to meet agreed targets.
  • Initiating and influencing the creation of innovative care models while promoting staff engagement and development.
