Position Overview
We are looking for a fixed-term Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join our dedicated team. This role is designed to enhance our services in the field of mental health for children and adolescents.
Essential Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in psychiatric practice is required for this position. Candidates without this experience may be considered for alternative roles with different responsibilities and compensation.
Interview Process
Our recruitment process involves a collaborative interview strategy for all Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) roles. Initially, candidates will be evaluated for the position they applied for. If that role is filled but the candidate is deemed suitable, they may be offered a different position within the organization.
Team Composition
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team that includes a Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Pharmacist, Psychotherapist, Family Therapist, Social Worker, CBT Therapist, and a dedicated administrative team. Regular multidisciplinary meetings are held to discuss complex cases and ensure comprehensive care.
Main Responsibilities
This role presents an opportunity to work within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team. The primary focus will be on supporting the ADHD team and addressing the backlog of assessments. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting assessments for ADHD and associated mental health conditions.
- Providing support to the wider CAMHS team in evaluating complex psychiatric cases.
Child and Family Clinics
The clinics receive referrals from various sources, including General Practitioners, Social Workers, Health Visitors, and Pediatricians. Referrals are managed through a centralized access point. The multidisciplinary teams consist of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Mental Health Nurses, and other specialists, operating on an outpatient basis and handling a significant volume of referrals monthly.

Job Responsibilities

- Perform administrative tasks related to patient care.

- Conduct new diagnostic assessments for ADHD and manage treatment plans.
Qualifications

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility
Essential
- Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice at the time of appointment.
Desirable
- Good standing with the GMC regarding warnings or conditions on practice.
- Section 12/Approved clinician approval.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- A minimum of four years of full-time postgraduate training, including at least two years in a psychiatry training program or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Comprehensive clinical skills with a bio-psychosocial approach.
Desirable
- Clinical experience across various psychiatric services.
