Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join Shaw Trust's growing Supported Internships (SI) programme. We seek candidates with experience working with neurodiverse young people or adults, who are flexible, committed, and effective communicators. The Tutor or Job Coach will engage with vulnerable young people and work with employers to secure placements.

Our Supported Internships programme is designed to provide young people with disabilities with the skills and experience needed to secure employment. As a Tutor or Job Coach, you will play a vital role in supporting interns in developing their skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organise and Direct the On-Site Learning Programme

Develop and implement a comprehensive on-site learning programme that meets the needs of our interns. This will include planning and delivering daily classroom activities and lesson plans to achieve the Pearson's Employability Award (Entry Level 3 – Level 2).

Recruit and Assess Students with Disabilities

Work with our recruitment team to identify and assess students with disabilities who are suitable for our Supported Internships programme. This will involve conducting interviews and assessments to determine the best fit for our programme.

Support Interns in Developing Portfolios and Achieving Accreditation

Work with interns to develop their portfolios and achieve accreditation. This will involve providing guidance and support to help interns meet the requirements of the Pearson's Employability Award.

Oversee Interns' Emotional and Social Welfare

Provide emotional and social support to interns, including addressing any issues that may arise during their placement. This will involve working closely with our mental health team to provide additional support when needed.

Collaborate with Local Authorities and Businesses

Work with local authorities and businesses to secure placements for our interns. This will involve attending meetings and developing relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the success of our programme.

Develop and Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Career Plans

Work with interns to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) and career plans. This will involve identifying their strengths and weaknesses and developing a plan to help them achieve their goals.

Ensure Interns Understand Their Roles through Host Business Inductions

Work with host businesses to ensure that interns understand their roles and responsibilities. This will involve providing induction training and support to help interns settle into their placements.

Work with Job Coaches and Managers to Create and Modify Internship Sites

Work with job coaches and managers to create and modify internship sites to meet the needs of our interns. This will involve identifying opportunities for growth and development and making recommendations for improvement.

Support Interns at Worksites Placements

Provide support to interns at worksite placements, including job coaching and identifying placements. This will involve working closely with our job coaches to ensure that interns are receiving the support they need to succeed.

Build Relationships with Parents and Educate Staff on Disability Awareness

Build relationships with parents and educate staff on disability awareness. This will involve providing training and support to help staff understand the needs of our interns and how to provide effective support.

Plan and Coordinate Events like Inductions and Graduations

Plan and coordinate events like inductions and graduations to celebrate the achievements of our interns. This will involve working closely with our events team to ensure that events are well-planned and executed.

Contribute to Marketing Efforts and Resolve Training and Employment Issues

Contribute to marketing efforts to promote our Supported Internships programme. This will involve working closely with our marketing team to develop marketing materials and strategies to attract new interns.

Train Interns in Personal Hygiene, Communication, and Job Behavior

Train interns in personal hygiene, communication, and job behavior to help them develop the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. This will involve working closely with our training team to develop and deliver training programmes.

Complete Job Coaching Paperwork and Apply for Access to Work Funding

Complete job coaching paperwork and apply for Access to Work funding to support interns in their placements. This will involve working closely with our job coaches to ensure that paperwork is completed accurately and efficiently.

Address Legal Responsibilities Concerning Intern Safety and Welfare

Address legal responsibilities concerning intern safety and welfare. This will involve working closely with our HR team to ensure that all necessary procedures are in place to protect the safety and welfare of our interns.

Person Specification
  • Level 3 Education and Training Award (PTTLS) or Willingness to Obtain

We are looking for candidates who have a Level 3 Education and Training Award (PTTLS) or are willing to obtain one. This will involve working closely with our training team to develop and deliver training programmes.

Strong Communication Skills with Diverse Groups
