Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join Shaw Trust's growing Supported Internships (SI) programme. We seek candidates with experience working with neurodiverse young people or adults, who are flexible, committed, and effective communicators. The Tutor or Job Coach will engage with vulnerable young people and work with employers to secure placements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programme Organisation: Develop and direct on-site learning programmes to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Student Recruitment and Assessment: Recruit and assess students with disabilities for the programme, ensuring a strong fit with the programme's goals and objectives.
  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Plan and deliver daily classroom activities and lesson plans to achieve the Pearson's Employability Award (Entry Level 3 – Level 2), focusing on skills development and employability.
  • Student Support: Support interns in developing portfolios, achieving accreditation, and obtaining recommendation letters, promoting their career advancement.
  • Welfare and Progression: Oversee interns' emotional and social welfare, collaborating with local authorities and businesses to address student progression and employment needs.
  • Individual Education Plans: Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and career plans for students, ensuring tailored support and guidance.
  • Host Business Inductions: Ensure interns understand their roles through host business inductions, promoting a smooth transition into the workplace.
  • Internship Site Development: Work with job coaches and managers to create and modify internship sites, ensuring a high-quality experience for interns.
  • Job Coaching and Placement Support: Support interns at worksite placements, including job coaching and identifying placements, to enhance their employability skills.
  • Disability Awareness and Education: Build relationships with parents and educate staff on disability awareness, promoting a culture of inclusion.
  • Event Planning and Coordination: Plan and coordinate events like inductions and graduations, celebrating interns' achievements.
  • Marketing and Training: Contribute to marketing efforts and resolve training and employment issues, ensuring a strong programme reputation.
  • Personal Development and Hygiene Training: Train interns in personal hygiene, communication, and job behavior, promoting their personal and professional growth.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete job coaching paperwork and apply for Access to Work funding, ensuring administrative tasks are managed efficiently.
  • Legal Compliance: Address legal responsibilities concerning intern safety and welfare, upholding the highest standards of care.

Person Specification

  • Education and Training Qualification: Level 3 Education and Training Award (PTTLS) or willingness to obtain, demonstrating a strong foundation in education and training.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with diverse groups, including students, employers, and colleagues.
  • Leadership and Management Experience: Dynamic and innovative, with leadership and management experience, able to motivate and guide teams.
  • Partnership Building and Workload Management: Ability to build effective partnerships and manage a workload, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Outcome Achievement and Service Development: Proven success in achieving outcomes and developing new services, driving programme growth and improvement.
  • Legislation and Policy Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to Children and Young People's Services and SEND, ensuring compliance and best practice.
