Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen to take charge of our specialized Spinal Care Services. We are in search of a highly proficient and dedicated clinician with advanced practice credentials and leadership capabilities to join our esteemed leadership team. This role involves collaborating with a vibrant group of healthcare professionals to enhance and deliver spinal services for complex cases, allowing you to leverage your leadership and specialized clinical expertise in the assessment and management of spinal disorders.

You will operate both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team alongside spinal and pain specialists, managing a diverse caseload of chronic and sub-acute back and neck pain patients.

This full-time position offers flexibility in work locations across the region.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide strategic, professional, clinical, and operational guidance for Advanced Practice Spinal Physiotherapists (APSPs).

• Inspire and empower the APSP workforce while fostering inclusivity among practitioners at various levels.

• Develop and uphold a comprehensive governance framework for recruitment, employment, and professional growth for all APSPs.

• Oversee the Back and Neck Service, ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations.

• Ensure the Back and Neck Service continually evolves to deliver a high standard of clinical care, informed by contemporary best practices and evidence-based guidelines.

• Collaborate closely with spinal consultants, pain specialists, general practitioners, and established physiotherapy teams to facilitate service enhancements and drive innovation, ensuring the best possible patient experience.

• Maintain an expert clinical caseload with full professional autonomy, encompassing patient assessments, diagnostic procedures, and treatment for a highly complex patient demographic.

Job Responsibilities

• Strategically lead the development of the Back and Neck Service, aligning with the broader strategic objectives of the organization.

• Function as an autonomous expert practitioner, providing a spinal assessment service for patients with complex conditions, including those with serious pathologies.

• Assume overall responsibility for leading, developing, and implementing an educational framework to enhance the roles and skills of APSPs across the organization.

• Collaborate with APSPs to analyze, initiate, and implement research and development programs for spinal services.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Extensive clinical experience and knowledge in the relevant specialty.
  • Evidence of recent study in the clinical area.
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application.
  • Demonstrated involvement in clinical governance and risk assessment.
  • Broad knowledge of health legislation.
  • Awareness of current NHS and professional issues.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Degree or Graduate Diploma in a relevant therapy.
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent.
  • Significant post-qualification experience (minimum 5 years) in Musculoskeletal and Spinal specialist roles.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of continuing education.

Desirable:

  • Membership in relevant special interest groups.
  • Management or leadership training.
  • CSP membership.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical skills in advanced clinical practice and clinical reasoning.
  • Able to critique research and apply relevant findings to practice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Presentation abilities.
  • Advanced communication skills for handling complex information confidentially.
  • Clinical leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proficient in computer skills for various clinical protocols.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience as an autonomous musculoskeletal and spinal physiotherapist.
  • Evidence of teaching, mentorship, and supervision of clinical staff.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Evidence of audit participation.

Desirable:

  • Experience in external lecturing.
  • Involvement in research initiatives.
  • Evidence of change management experience.
