Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist or Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) Laboratory at NHS Blood and Transplant. Our laboratory plays a critical role in supporting renal and stem cell transplantation for NHS teaching hospitals in the UK. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing, analysing, and interpreting a wide range of specialist scientific and technical procedures and investigations.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Analyse and perform molecular and serological based testing in relation to solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplant and immunogenetic services.
  • Assist with quality management issues within the laboratory, under the direction of the Clinical Scientists Section Head and Laboratory Operations Manager.
  • Communicate specialist results to internal and external clinicians, other healthcare colleagues, and scientific staff.
  • Contribute to the coordination and supervision of the work, training, and conduct of scientific and support staff.
  • Assist with the supply of HLA selected platelet units and provide advice to clinicians.
About You

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in clinical solid organ and/or stem cell transplantation science.
  • Experience of working to quality and accreditation systems and standards.
  • Proficiency in relevant specialised laboratory techniques/environments.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages.
Qualifications and Training

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • MSc or equivalent in transplantation, immunology, transfusion, or relevant science.
  • Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered Clinical or Biomedical Scientist.
  • BSc in Biological/Medical sciences or relevant sciences.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
