Position Overview

We invite applications for the role of Senior Clinical Trainee in Hepatobiliary Surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This position offers a unique opportunity to join a leading surgical unit specializing in Hepatobiliary procedures, recognized as a central referral center for a significant population.

Available Positions

There are two positions open for this role:

  • Position 1: To commence for a duration of 12 months
  • Position 2: To commence for a duration of 12 months

About the Surgical Unit

The Hepatobiliary Surgical Unit is one of the largest in the region, with a robust team of experienced consultants and a high volume of surgical procedures performed annually. The unit is dedicated to providing exceptional training in specialized surgical techniques.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have prior experience at the Specialty Registrar level in General Surgery. While experience in Hepatobiliary Surgery is advantageous, it is not a mandatory requirement.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing senior surgical support for Hepatobiliary patients
  • Participating in operating theatre sessions and outpatient consultations
  • Engaging in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Covering the on-call responsibilities specific to Hepatobiliary Surgery

There is no obligation to participate in on-call duties related to General Surgery or Transplant Surgery. The appointee will collaborate with a team of Specialty Clinical Fellows and Trainees, with opportunities to undertake independent clinical work.

Training and Development

We pride ourselves on our commitment to providing comprehensive training in Hepatobiliary Surgery, including complex surgical procedures. There will be numerous opportunities for involvement in research initiatives that may lead to publications.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council are required upon commencement.

Communication Skills

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English, encompassing listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, to ensure effective communication regarding medical matters with patients and colleagues.
