About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented General Practice Assistant to join our team at Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative. As a General Practice Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our General Practitioners with the smooth running of clinics, allowing them to focus on patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Appointment Management: Arrange appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up appointments for patients, adhering to our internal appointment allocation process.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients prior to their appointment with the General Practitioner, taking a brief history and basic readings as necessary.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete basic forms and core elements of some forms for the General Practitioner to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage applications, and benefits agency forms.
  • Patient Communication: Explain treatment procedures to patients in accordance with NHS guidelines.
  • Collaboration with External Agencies: Assist the General Practitioner in liaising with outside agencies, obtaining advice or arranging admissions as needed.
  • Post Management: Sort and prioritize clinical post for the General Practitioner, signposting some post to other members of staff as necessary.
  • Clinical Coding: Extract information from clinical letters, add it to patient notes, and support with Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) reviews.

Person Specification
  • Essential Experience: A minimum of 12 months' experience in a GP practice or primary care setting.
  • Desirable Experience: Experience in applying theoretical learning to practical situations, managing health records, and common examination procedures.
  • Essential Skills and Knowledge: Strong administration and organizational skills, good communication skills, and a good understanding of data protection, GDPR, and patient confidentiality.
  • Personal Qualities: A strong interest in health and social care, a committed learner, and the ability to work independently.
