GP Assistant, Primary Care Collaborative

About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative to recruit a highly skilled General Practice Assistant to support our General Practitioners with the smooth running of clinics.
The ideal candidate will have a high level of competence in good patient care and working with the public, with experience in documenting medical details and referring to senior colleagues when necessary.
Main Responsibilities
- Arrange appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up appointments of patients in line with the internal appointment allocation process.
- Prepare patients prior to seeing the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the appointment.
- Complete basic forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage, and benefits agency forms.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients in line with NHS guidance.
- Help the GP liaise with outside agencies, get an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP continues with the consultation.
- Sort clinical post and prioritize for the GP, signposting some post to other members of staff such as the Clinical Pharmacist.
- Extract information from clinical letters that needs coding, add it to patient notes, and support with QOF reviews.
