About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Residential Care Team Leader to join our team at Swanton Care & Community Ltd. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day management of a shift, providing practical assistance and emotional support to empower your team in supporting the children they care for to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of a shift, ensuring the highest standard of care is maintained.
  • Provide practical assistance and emotional support to empower your team in supporting the children they care for.
  • Coordinate the shift, allocating child supervision and prioritizing care needs.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating a positive approach to behaviors that could present challenges.
  • Support the management team in evaluating ongoing care needs and child development.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with children, families, and external agencies.
  • Ensure the provision of a family-oriented, negotiated care package that meets the needs of all children and their families.
  • Recruit, maintain, and develop the staffing team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and training to provide high-quality care.
  • Ensure the home is run in line with company policy and procedures, holding supervisory responsibilities for members of the team.
  • Undertake a wide range of duties, including direct care of children with complex needs.
  • Work shifts and be flexible to meet the needs of the children and fulfill all health and safety requirements.
  • Provide part of the on-call service for the children's homes, as required.
  • Act as a member of the team, assisting the management in giving the highest standard of care possible to all children and young people.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, adhering to child protection policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in a residential care setting.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with complex needs.
  • Displays initiative and approachability, with a positive attitude towards behaviors that could present challenges.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and policies related to childcare and social work.
  • Ability to coordinate a shift and prioritize care needs.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as a team member.
  • Driver of a minibus, with the ability to meet the physical demands of the post.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in childcare or social work.
  • Diploma in residential care or commitment to complete within a specified timeframe.
  • NNEB, DIPSW, or NVQ Level 4.
  • Good standard of general education and excellent skills.
  • Safeguarding qualification.

Working for Swanton Care & Community Ltd

We are a small, purpose-built bungalow for children with complex medical needs, with life-limiting illnesses. Our support team is trained to look after children who may have a tracheostomy tube, require long-term ventilation, epilepsy, physio, gastrostomies, and other medical needs.
