About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Residential Care Team Leader to join our team at Swanton Care & Community Ltd. As a key member of our care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and support to children with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of a shift, providing practical assistance and emotional support to empower your team in supporting the children they care for.
  • Support the Registered Manager in ensuring the highest standard of care is maintained, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, maintain, and develop the staffing team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and training to provide excellent care.
  • Coordinate the shift, allocating child supervision and prioritizing care needs.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity to others, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the management team, key workers, and other professionals to evaluate ongoing care needs and child development.
  • Ensure the provision of a family-oriented, negotiated care package that meets the needs of all children and their families.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of involvement with children and their families, ensuring all documentation is completed and up-to-date.
  • Report any unusual occurrences or concerns to management, adhering to child protection policies and procedures.
  • Act as an ambassador for Swanton Care & Community Ltd, promoting a positive image and reputation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in childcare or a related field.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with children, staff, relatives, and external agencies.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and policies related to childcare and vulnerable adults.
  • Ability to coordinate a shift, prioritize care needs, and manage unexpected situations.
  • Experience of working with staff in a supervisory role and ability to provide guidance and support.
  • Driver's license and ability to drive a minibus (if required).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in childcare, social work, or a related subject.
  • Diploma in residential care or commitment to complete within a specified timeframe.
  • NNEB, DIPSW, or NVQ Level 4 in childcare or a related field.
  • Safeguarding qualification and knowledge of disability, medical, mental health, and associated complex needs.
