Join our esteemed clinical neuroscience psychology team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. This position emphasizes the provision of psychological support to individuals impacted by neurological disorders, acquired brain injuries, strokes, and functional neurological issues. As we expand our clinical neuropsychology services, further pathways will be identified in collaboration with our consultant psychologists and the leadership of the clinical health psychology service.
The clinical neuroscience psychology team operates within the broader clinical health psychology framework. Consequently, you will engage in various clinical and governance activities alongside our consultant psychologists.
We are currently offering 37.5 substantive hours. Our clinical health psychology service is innovative and continually evolving. We are proud to partner with and enhance a variety of services within the trust. We encourage applications from:
- Highly skilled and experienced clinical psychologists who are adaptable, compassionate, and reflective.
- Those with a keen interest in neuropsychology, exceptional interpersonal abilities, and a commitment to exploring novel practice areas with seasoned multidisciplinary team (MDT) colleagues.
- Individuals eager to contribute to the development of evidence-based practices and enhance our dynamic clinical health psychology service.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary role will involve delivering psychological care within a specialized adult clinical neuroscience and health psychology service as part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
You will be responsible for providing both inpatient and outpatient care to patients facing various neurological challenges, acquired brain injuries, and functional neurological disorders. This includes conducting comprehensive assessments and formulating complex neuropsychological issues to devise and implement tailored care and management strategies that meet each patient's unique clinical requirements.
In addition to personalized care, you will facilitate brief group psychoeducation sessions for patients and their families. Effective communication with patients, caregivers, and colleagues within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and other professional and community groups is essential. Your role will focus on promoting the objectives of psychological care and ensuring active participation of patients and caregivers throughout the treatment process.
Furthermore, you will engage in training, audits, and service enhancements within the clinical health psychology service, guided by NHS priorities and advancements in psychological and therapeutic practices. Upholding and advocating for equality and diversity, you will adhere to relevant legislation and trust policies in these areas. A commitment to improving the quality of your practice, the service, and the Trust is an ongoing responsibility.

Our organization comprises 10,000 dedicated individuals striving to provide exceptional services to our patients. Regardless of your role, you play a vital part in caring for 370,000 individuals in our community and delivering specialized care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire and Cumbria.
Collaborating with us offers you the opportunity to gain knowledge and a sense of pride, knowing that your contributions genuinely impact our patients and staff, ensuring we continue to thrive and deliver outstanding healthcare across our local regions.
You will have access to diverse development opportunities, acquire new skills, connect with remarkable individuals, and engage in experiences you may never have encountered otherwise.
You will make a difference, be encouraged to think innovatively, be bold, and contribute to ongoing improvements. Every action we take centers around patient care and enhancing their experience, making your role crucial and something to take pride in.
Detailed Responsibilities
Your duties will encompass, but are not limited to:
- Delivering a specialized Adult Neuroscience Psychology Service across the Physical Health Specialties within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
- Providing highly specialized neuropsychologically informed care for patients with various neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, strokes, and functional neurological disorders, both inpatient and outpatient.
- Conducting short-term specialized neuropsychological assessments, formulating rehabilitation strategies, and consulting on patients' psychological presentations and functioning across various settings.
- Offering short-term therapy, interventions, and psychological rehabilitation to patients.
- Contributing to integrated multidisciplinary care through joint appointments and MDT assessment clinics for patients referred by our MDT colleagues.
- Training and supporting MDT colleagues in psychologically informed care through education, consultation, and clinical supervision.
- Promoting patient needs, clinical symptoms, and care approaches within the MDT.
- Collaborating with consultant clinical psychologists, MDT colleagues, and key stakeholders.
- Working autonomously within professional guidelines and frameworks relevant to each clinical area.
- Engaging in your professional and leadership development, including reflective practice.
