Building Regulations Consultant - 3 month engagement (potential for extension)

Work Schedule:
Full-time, 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Compensation:
£60.00 per hour (Umbrella - Inside IR35)


We are currently in search of a skilled Building Regulations Consultant to collaborate with the Building Control Manager in executing the service responsibilities effectively and to the highest standards, ensuring alignment with service objectives, corporate goals, and legal obligations.


Under the general supervision of the Building Control Manager, the role encompasses various functions, duties, and responsibilities of the Service, which may evolve over time.


  • To conduct thorough evaluations of submitted Full Plan Building Regulation applications for adherence to the Building Regulations and related legislation, making decisions to reject, approve, or conditionally approve.
  • To assess Building Notices and Regularisation Certificates for compliance with relevant legislation and request any additional information as necessary.
  • To review Approved Inspection Notices/Certificates for compliance and determine whether to approve, conditionally approve, or reject.
  • To document fees in accordance with the Building (prescribed Fees) Regulations.
  • To perform site visits and inspections as required for proposed, ongoing, or completed building operations, ensuring compliance with legislation, codes of practice, and guidelines.
* including coordinating with emergency contractors and liaising with other emergency services as needed.

  • To respond to inquiries from the public, clients, firms, institutions, or organizations, providing appropriate advice, assistance, or information.
  • To stay updated on evolving legislation, techniques, and new materials by reviewing relevant publications, standards, and attending training seminars as necessary.
  • To issue notices and specifications as mandated by the Highways Advance Payment code.
  • To maintain statistical and written records of work performed, complaints addressed, etc., and provide information as required.
  • To prepare necessary notices, licenses, schedules, or other documents as dictated by relevant legislation or job responsibilities, such as demolition notices and dangerous structures.
  • To escalate any serious or contentious matters to the Building Control Manager.
  • To fulfill the duties and responsibilities associated with the role to ensure the effective operation of the Client's Building Control Service.
  • To engage in the One2One performance review process and pursue any necessary training and development to support your role.
  • A Full Building Surveying Degree; with five years of relevant experience, or Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or Membership of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (MCABE). Or Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB).
  • Registered as a Class 2 Building Inspector, Category A with the Building Safety Regulator.
