Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SENDCo to join our team at GSL Education. As a SENDCo, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEND or a disability.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the SEND policy and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Provide professional guidance and support to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents, and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • Monitor and review the quality of provision for pupils with SEND, using agreed methodologies to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address these.
  • Work with early years providers, other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other external agencies to ensure seamless support for pupils with SEND.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils and young people, adhering to school policies and the staff code of conduct.
  • Lead the High Needs In School Provision, with some teaching responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience and understanding of teaching in the primary phase.
  • Completed NPQ for SENCO.
  • Thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and experience in the role of SENDCo.
  • Knowledge and expertise to build on established processes and systems.
  • Experience of delivering training and leading INSET.
  • Ability to undertake observations of pupils and support teachers with strategies to ensure better outcomes for pupils.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
