Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our bank team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. As a bank nurse, you will have the opportunity to work in various departments across the trust, providing care to patients with complex and enduring mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with mental health needs, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with patients, carers, and relatives, ensuring their needs are met and their rights are respected.
  • Participate in the admission procedure, ensuring a smooth transition for patients and effective communication with the clinical team.
  • Utilize specific care planning tools, such as the Managing Challenging Behaviour in Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment Policy, to provide tailored care for patients with specific needs.
  • Co-ordinate care for patients, working in partnership with the clinical team and specialist healthcare providers to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and programmes of care.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with assigned patients, carers, and relatives, ensuring their needs are met and their rights are respected.
  • Understand and apply the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards in relation to consent and best interest decision making.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection regarding all personal information and trust activity, adhering to professional codes of conduct and relevant legislation.
Requirements
  • NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Ability to develop a therapeutic relationship.
  • Ability to work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Ability to present information both written and oral and communicate this effectively.
  • Ability to develop one's own practice using the supervision process.
  • Flexible approach to interventions.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Mentorship training.

  • Experience of shift coordination.
  • Experience of supervising and mentoring junior staff and students.
  • Experience of racial awareness/diversity training.
  • IT skills.
  • Clinical skills relevant to the post applied for.
  • Skilled in the communication of sensitive issues.
  • Skilled in supervision of others, and in providing critical and constructive feedback.
