London, Greater London, United Kingdom Greater London Authority Full time £63,111

Contract Type:
Permanent, Part Time
Contract Details: 3 days a week
We are a collaborative and motivated team consisting of approximately sixty members.

Our Unit comprises four specialized teams:
Community Engagement, Equalities, Financial Hardship, and Migration.

Our mission is to enhance civic engagement, particularly among marginalized communities, ensuring that all Londoners possess the voice, power, and influence necessary for their success.

We are responsible for fulfilling the Mayor's statutory equalities obligations and addressing systemic inequalities.
Our goal is to assist Londoners in accessing essential support to prevent or alleviate financial difficulties.
We strive to ensure that every Londoner can flourish, regardless of their background or immigration status.

We are seeking a candidate for a job-share position within the Equalities team, part of the Communities and Social Policy Unit, working three days a week (preferably Wednesday to Friday, with some flexibility) alongside the current permanent team member.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to tackling structural inequalities in London and possess a comprehensive understanding of social policy and program implementation.

As the Principal Policy and Projects Officer, you and your job-share partner will jointly oversee the prominent Workforce Integration Network initiative.

This initiative aims to foster systemic transformation in London's workplaces, focusing on mitigating labor market disparities and enhancing opportunities for underrepresented demographics, particularly Black Londoners and those of Pakistani and Bangladeshi descent.

Collaboration with a diverse array of stakeholders, including local and national government entities, non-profit organizations, and commercial enterprises, will be essential.

The Principal Policy and Projects Officer will report to the Head of Equalities and play a pivotal role within the Equalities management team.

You will lead the design and execution of a program that encompasses projects and policy initiatives aimed at addressing workforce and labor market disparities, aligned with the Mayor's strategic priorities.

Establish and nurture robust working relationships with senior stakeholders across various sectors to inform policy and project development, ensuring these collaborations contribute to the successful realization of the GLA's objectives and positively impact Londoners.

Oversee a sub-team dedicated to developing and executing a work program focused on labor market inequalities, ensuring the team meets their principal responsibilities as outlined in their job descriptions and adheres to the Authority's policies and standards.

Manage processes related to program execution, including procurement and contract oversight.

Maintain a current and high level of awareness regarding legislative, technical, and policy developments related to labor market inequality.

Proactively identify and address emerging challenges, new trends, and innovations that may influence the implementation of Mayoral policies and initiatives.

Contribute actively to corporate and unit-level planning and performance management efforts.
Lead the preparation of policy reports, briefings, and other materials for the Mayor and Deputy Mayors.

Draft responses to inquiries and correspondence directed to the Mayor from Assembly members, government agencies, and other public, private, and community organizations.

Embrace the advantages of London's diversity by promoting equal opportunities and addressing the varied needs and aspirations of the city's communities.

Adopt a flexible approach to work while fulfilling the responsibilities of this role and participating in multidisciplinary, cross-departmental, and cross-organizational teams and projects.

Professional experience and expertise in social policy, particularly within a London context, are essential. Experience in roles or projects aimed at addressing inequalities will be beneficial.
A proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects, achieving results on target and within budget, is required.
Familiarity with effective policy development processes within a complex political landscape is necessary.

This includes high-quality analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to anticipate long-term challenges and opportunities, alongside a keen focus on practical policy implementation.

Comprehensive knowledge of the key stakeholders and relationships crucial for developing and delivering effective social policy in London is essential.
