About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology department at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. As a key member of our senior management team, you will play a vital role in the leadership and development of our laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing section of the department, ensuring high-quality results and efficient service delivery.
  • Supervise and train junior staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional development.
  • Act as a 'super user' for various instruments within the bacteriology section, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting.
  • Deputise for the Bacteriology SBMS when required, providing leadership and support to the team.
  • Review, update, and write new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with local and national guidelines.
  • Audit and verify laboratory results, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Requirements
  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification.
  • MSc Biomedical Science (or related subject) or FIBMS examinations.
  • IBMS Specialist portfolio Microbiology.
  • Current State Registration (Healthcare Professions Council) as Biomedical Scientist.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in an NHS Microbiology laboratory, with expertise in bacterial and mycological culture interpretation and identification techniques.
  • Expert knowledge and experience of antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Experience of writing and reviewing SOPs in line with local or national guidelines.
