We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology Department at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in leading and managing the Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing section, ensuring the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing section, ensuring compliance with ISO 15189:2022 standards and accreditation requirements.
- Supervise and train junior staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their development and success.
- Act as a 'super user' for various instruments within the bacteriology section, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
- Conduct audits and verifications to ensure the quality and accuracy of diagnostic results.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with local and national guidelines.
- Collaborate with the senior management team to maintain ISO 15189:2022 accreditation and achieve efficient and effective patient care.
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification.
- MSc Biomedical Science (or related subject) or FIBMS examinations.
- IBMS Specialist portfolio Microbiology.
- Current State Registration (Healthcare Professions Council) as Biomedical Scientist.
- Minimum 2 years' experience working in an NHS Microbiology laboratory, with expertise in bacterial and mycological culture interpretation and identification techniques, and faecal parasitology morphology.
- Expert knowledge and experience of antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Experience of writing and reviewing SOPs in line with local or national guidelines.
