About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our Homecare team at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the Homecare team by managing patient prescriptions, maintaining databases, and collaborating with clinical teams to ensure timely medication delivery.

You will handle queries from patients and healthcare professionals, maintain accurate records, and assist with financial reports. Comprehensive training and support will help you thrive in this fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Provide clerical support to the Homecare team, including filing, data manipulation, minute taking, and organizing meetings.
  2. Raise orders against Homecare prescriptions and ensure they reach the Homecare Provider in time for the first delivery.
  3. Process homecare prescriptions/services and invoices through the JAC pharmacy homecare management system in an accurate and timely manner.
  4. Monitor and maintain the pharmacy database in relation to Homecare services.
  5. Undertake any other relevant activities as may be necessary to provide a quality service as required.
  6. Act as a meet and greet for visitors to the department as required.
  7. Deal courteously with telephone calls from patients, healthcare professionals, and other general enquiries or direct them to the appropriate people.
  8. Ability to work under own initiative within the defined processes and procedures.
  9. Assist the Pharmacy Admin supervisor in the smooth running of the Pharmacy Homecare Service.
Requirements
  • 4 GCSE passes or equivalent including English Language and Maths
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of importance of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of pharmacy, clinical, or medical terms and issues
Desirable Skills
  • Previous experience of working in a large organization
  • Experience of using a wide range of IT packages, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Experience of data entry, analysis, and report production
  • Experience of taking and writing up minutes of meetings and setting up agendas for meetings
  • Experience of compiling and circulating paperwork for meetings
  • Experience of working within a customer or patient services environment
  • NHS experience
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment
  • Experience of managing databases
Personal Qualities
  • Excellent IT skills in relation to Microsoft Word processing, spreadsheets, and Excel
  • Excellent IT skills in relation to Microsoft Teams, including document filing and setting up virtual meetings
  • Ability to type accurately
  • Good use of initiative
  • Well-developed organizational skills
  • Excellent prioritizing skills
  • Excellent level of attention to detail
