Chester, Cheshire, United Kingdom Colas Full time

Colas Ltd is a prominent UK branch of the global Colas Group, which operates in over 50 countries and employs more than 55,000 individuals, including a significant workforce in the UK across various locations. We specialize in roadway construction and have participated in extensive UK and international construction initiatives within the highways, airfields, and marine sectors, in addition to providing roadway maintenance services and producing our own innovative surfacing solutions. We are proud to hold a 'Gold Investor in People' award, recognizing our commitment to the continuous development and reward of our employees, offering exceptional career opportunities.

Role Overview

Colas is tasked with an eight-year Maintenance & Response contract, focusing on the local Road Network. This contract encompasses various maintenance activities, including cyclical maintenance, reactive maintenance, incident response, severe weather response, and minor works.

We are currently seeking dedicated Roadway Maintenance Technicians with HGV Class 2 driving licenses to join our team. As a Roadway Maintenance Technician, you will collaborate with your colleagues to perform essential roadway maintenance tasks, including winter maintenance and emergency response as needed. Your responsibilities will include a range of activities such as Patching, Traffic Management, Gully Emptying, Soft Estate maintenance, Street Furniture Repair, and Winter Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will engage in various roadway maintenance activities, including Gully Emptying, Winter Maintenance, Sweeping & Cleaning, Soft Estate Clearance, and Traffic Management, among others, to ensure the effective upkeep of the Highway Infrastructure. You will work closely with your team to promote a strong Health & Safety culture in the workplace, adhering to defined safe systems of work and risk assessments. Active participation in incident management and winter service is expected. You will utilize Colas equipment and fleet responsibly, ensuring all vehicles are checked for safety in accordance with company policy. Additionally, you will manage administrative tasks such as timesheet collation and recording plant, labor, and material usage. You may also be assigned other relevant duties by your line manager or Ganger, ensuring the successful completion of tasks in line with Colas Health & Safety standards. Maintaining a professional demeanor that positively reflects the company's image is essential. Flexibility to work both nights and days, as well as participate in out-of-hours rotas for winter maintenance and emergency response, is required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidates will possess a HGV Class 2 Licence, which is essential for this position, along with a full UK driving licence. While experience in Roadway Maintenance and relevant qualifications (such as NRSWA, TM, Gully Emptying, Soft Estate) are desirable, they are not mandatory. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments and adverse weather conditions are crucial.
