We are looking for a committed and empathetic Lead Family Support Specialist to join our dedicated team.

You will report directly to our Family Support Lead and collaborate closely with them daily to ensure efficient operations.

Your primary role will be to deliver essential assistance to children, young individuals, parents, and families in multiple capacities.


This encompasses overseeing family interaction sessions, providing individualized support meetings, offering respite assistance to families with children exhibiting challenging behaviors or those with special educational needs, and delivering care and support for children in care.


Occasionally, the Family Support Specialist will play a crucial role in aiding young individuals and families facing crisis situations and must be adept at providing comprehensive support, including practical, emotional, and physical assistance.


Key Responsibilities:

Oversee Family Interaction Sessions:

  • Ensure safe and suitable environments for family interaction sessions.
  • Facilitate positive engagements among family members during sessions.
  • Record observations and interactions for case documentation.

Deliver Individual Support Meetings:

  • Provide practical and emotional guidance to children, young individuals, parents, and families.
  • Create and implement customized support plans to meet individual requirements.
  • Assist in developing coping mechanisms and life skills.

Respite Assistance for Families:

  • Offer respite assistance to families of children with challenging behaviors and those with special educational needs.
  • Help families access community resources and support services.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for families.

Care and Support for Children in Care:

  • Provide nurturing care and guidance to children in care according to their care plans.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of children in care within the care system.
  • Work alongside social workers and foster families to ensure the wellbeing of children in care.

Assistance in Crisis Situations:

  • Respond swiftly to crisis situations involving young individuals and families.
  • Offer practical and emotional support to stabilize situations and mitigate risks.
  • Coordinate with relevant agencies and professionals to facilitate crisis interventions.

Person Specification:

  • Qualification in social work, psychology, or counseling (preferred).
  • Proven experience working with children, young individuals, and families in diverse environments.
  • Ability to drive is essential for this role as you will be commuting across various regions.
  • Understanding of child development, family dynamics, and safeguarding principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to challenging circumstances.
  • Empathy, patience, and a nonjudgmental approach.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies governing family support services.
  • Valid driver's license and access to transportation (preferred).
