We are seeking skilled Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers to become part of our dynamic Hospital Bank.

As a Bank Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for filling in for various shifts across the hospital, allowing you to engage with diverse teams and departments. This role can be quite demanding due to its nature, so prior experience in a healthcare setting is highly recommended. Additionally, working through the Bank offers you the flexibility to maintain a healthy work-life balance, allowing you to choose your working hours.

Shifts for Healthcare Assistants are available seven days a week, including weekends, nights, and Bank Holidays. Typical shift hours are from 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am.

Main Responsibilities

It is essential to recognize that certain aspects of healthcare can be challenging and emotionally taxing, yet the rewards of this role are significant.

You will assist patients with personal hygiene tasks (such as bathing or dressing) while maintaining their dignity and comfort. Effective communication with both patients and their families is crucial, especially when caring for individuals who may be experiencing severe health issues.

Important Note: A minimum commitment of two shifts per week is required for Bank workers (exceptions apply for student nurses).

Training Requirements: All Bank staff must complete role-specific training before they can book shifts.

Role Description
Healthcare Assistants perform a variety of care duties directly with patients and their families.

These responsibilities are carried out under the guidance of qualified healthcare professionals (such as Nurses) after receiving the necessary training, which we provide. Responsibilities may include:

  • Ensuring patient dignity while assisting with bathing or showering
  • Serving meals and, if needed, helping patients with eating
  • Making and changing beds
  • Turning immobile patients to prevent pressure sores
  • Engaging in conversation with patients to alleviate feelings of loneliness or anxiety
  • Assisting patients with mobility challenges and supporting their rehabilitation
  • Managing bedpans and assisting with toileting needs

  • Prior professional healthcare experience (e.g., care homes)
  • Experience in caregiving (family or friends)
