Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at ZipRecruiter. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and engineering support of mechanical life-saving survival equipment and other related products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems, including plastics and metal assemblies, from concept to production release.
  • Take project management responsibility for assigned projects and work packages, ensuring they meet design specification requirements and target prime costs within agreed timescales and development costs.
  • Ensure mechanical designs are fit for purpose, offering elegant, robust, and cost-effective solutions that are designed for manufacture.
  • Address and resolve mechanical design-related issues in manufacture, such as tolerancing and inadequate design, via the engineering change process in a timely fashion.
  • Manage mechanical engineering workload, including projects and work packages, to ensure they meet design specification requirements and target prime costs within agreed timescales and development costs.
  • Work closely with the Project/Product Manager to ensure their projects are adequately supported from a technical aspect.
  • Plan, monitor, and report on the status of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and resources to support other areas of the business as required.
  • Control the design status of assigned projects and tasks by maintaining relevant project files, drawings, documents, and reports through the company's documentation and configuration control procedures.
  • Support sales and marketing, manufacturing, and quality in areas where your knowledge and expertise are beneficial.
  • Assist the Chief Technology Officer in developing concepts, plans, specifications, and ideas for new products.
  • Produce a weekly status report on all mechanical engineering activity and assigned projects.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers and suppliers as necessary to fulfill the above tasks.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of plastics/sheet metal/castings type environment to IP68 and impact/crush testing.
  • Great functional mechanical solutions suited to life-saving applications in the marine environment.
  • Design life cycle (concept to production) within an ISO9001 or similar quality environment.
  • High and low volume design for commercial and leisure markets.
  • Engineering drawing change control and process.
  • Design of production assembly and test fixtures.
  • Knowledge and experience of ultra-sonic welding of plastic materials.
  • Experience of marine, aviation, and nav/comms.
  • 3D/2D CAD (Solidworks) and FEA/FEM/Stress Analysis.
  • Experience of PDM/PLM software.
  • MS Word, Excel, MS Project, PPT, Publisher (Microsoft office suite).
