Position Summary

As a Junior Economist, you will engage with macroeconomic trends and provide insights specifically focused on the sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region, including South Africa. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, intellectually challenging environment, allowing you to leverage your economics, quantitative analysis, and communication skills effectively. If you possess a strong work ethic and a passion for collaboration, we invite you to be part of a stimulating role where your interest in political and economic developments will be paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive analyses of macroeconomic factors influencing SSA economies under the guidance of Senior Economists;
- Maintain and enhance analytical models and tools;
- Collaborate closely with lead economists and engage with strategists to develop forecasts and economic perspectives;
- Contribute to the preparation of regular research publications focusing on African economies;
- Monitor and compile news updates by country, and refresh chartbooks and templates for various publications;
- Support internal sales and trading teams, and respond to customized requests from external institutional clients.
- Degree in Economics or a related field;
- Strong quantitative abilities with a proven track record in macro data analysis;
- In-depth understanding of economic principles and statistical methods;
- Awareness of regional political, economic, and business trends;
- Proficiency in spreadsheet applications and statistical programming languages (Eviews, R, Python);
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
- Experience in a research capacity within a financial institution is advantageous, though not mandatory;
- Prior research exposure in emerging markets or the official creditor sector is a significant plus.
