Job Description

Job Title: Commercial Category Lead

Job Summary:

As a Commercial Category Lead at Thames Water, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of suppliers to ensure contracted expectations continue to be improved throughout the contract life cycle and to support these suppliers in delivering additional value to the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Management: Responsible for managing a portfolio of suppliers to ensure contracted expectations continue to be improved throughout the contract life cycle and to support these suppliers in delivering additional value to the company.
  • Category Knowledge: Providing extensive category knowledge and supplying market insight to internal stakeholders. Delivering category strategies and sourcing events, providing SME support and identifying/managing category-level risk.
  • Commercial Expertise: Becoming the commercial expert for the category enables the company to quickly adapt to market changes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage proactively with internal stakeholders to shape category approach, business needs, spending and suppliers.
  • Tender Evaluation: Lead and evaluate competitive tenders and proposals for the supply of goods and services.
  • Supplier Interface: Be a key interface with the supplier in a particular category.
  • Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate reporting on the sourcing projects using available reporting tools
  • Company Standards: Understand and adhere to the company and department standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Networking: A good networker with the ability to build productive relationships across all areas of the team and collaborate with colleagues to build flexible solutions which work for them and the organisation as a whole.
  • Industry Knowledge: Ability to challenge industry norms and proactively seek out opportunities to deliver sustained improvements in performance.
  • Negotiation Skills: Capable of leading complex supplier negotiations up to £100m in value.
  • Process Improvement: Good understanding of pre and post-deal processes and how better information and improvements in the process can deliver value to the organisation.
  • Influencing: Evidence of being able to influence internal stakeholders and suppliers to drive meaningful change.
  • Supply Chain Experience: Some understanding and experience of operating in complex supply chain environments.
  • Risk Management: Ability to prioritise and manage risk and complexity effectively.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive Salary: Competitive salary from £45,000 to £55,000 per annum depending on experience.
  • Annual Leave: Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
