Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinically experienced midwife to join the Maternity Quality and Safety team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The role will be 80% clinical quality and safety and 20% clinical, requiring a high level of organisation, flexibility, and motivation.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high profile in the clinical area and be accessible to all staff.
  • Develop and maintain communication channels, engaging all roles within the service and ensuring regular updates are provided.
  • Provide professional and operational support to the Midwifery clinical and management team in relation to Claims, Complaints, Clinical Risk, and Governance initiatives and issues.
  • Assist with the day-to-day maternity risk management process and strategy, including accurate reporting and validation of incidents onto the Datix electronic system.
  • Be responsible for ensuring incidents from the service are reported as appropriate, via the Datix reporting system.
  • Coordinate, lead, or delegate investigations and provide leadership and support for staff when serious incidents occur within maternity services.
Development, Planning, and Organisation
  • Be aware of national initiatives and strategies and feed them into local maternity service development.
  • Ensure a current business continuity plan exists to support system failure and staff are fully aware of the plan.
  • Contribute towards the planning of services to meet organisational and national targets.
  • Ensure staff have the ability to maintain contemporaneous records in line with the Clinical Negligence scheme for Trusts (CNST) and professional standards.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Be an active member of the relevant Clinical Governance and Risk Committees as directed and set up support systems to ensure the committees receive robust information from the Division (maternity services).
  • Comply with all Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines with regards to staff management issues.
  • Take personal responsibility for own professional and personal development, in line with the NMC, and participate in personal performance reviews.
  • Be highly visible and approachable to midwifery and obstetric staff, women, and their families, creating open and honest communication channels and effective assessments of care delivery and risk management.
