About the Role

Fugro is seeking a highly skilled Staff Laboratory Engineer to join our Geotechnical Laboratory team in Oxfordshire. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing advanced tests on soil samples from client projects globally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced tests on soil samples, including monotonic cyclic triaxial and simple shear tests, resonant column, and constant rate of strain consolidation tests.
  • Operate advanced computer control programs and record data in handwritten format, then enter it into a computer.
  • Process and check advanced tests, as well as train new technicians in the laboratory.
  • Work on a variety of projects from the energy industries, with daily challenges and no two days the same.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A to C, including Maths and Science, and 1 A-Level grade A-C in a Maths or Science subject or equivalent qualifications.
  • Strong MS Excel knowledge.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and take ownership of tasks.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills within the team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Competent use of email.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience of working in a geotechnical laboratory or within the geotechnical industry.
  • A degree in a physical science, especially courses that have soil mechanics or mechanics of materials (strength of materials). Alternatively, significant relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of soil behaviour and foundation engineering issues.
