Staff Laboratory Engineer

Job Description
Fugro is seeking a highly skilled Staff Laboratory Engineer to join their Geotechnical Laboratory in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. The laboratory is one of the most advanced and largest in the world, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment to analyze soil samples from global client projects. As a Staff Laboratory Engineer, you will perform advanced tests on samples, including monotonic cyclic triaxial and simple shear tests, as well as resonant column and constant rate of strain consolidation tests. You will use advanced computer control programs to conduct tests and record data in handwritten format, then enter it into a computer. You will also process and check the advanced tests, as well as train new technicians in the laboratory.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy a challenging work environment with daily tasks that vary, working on a variety of projects from the energy industries. You should have high attention to detail, enjoy practical work, and be able to work to specific standards and applied specifications. The opportunity to work offshore as a laboratory technician for 4 weeks at a time is also available.
As a member of a small, dedicated laboratory team, you will be responsible for preparing soil samples for testing, running advanced tests, monitoring testing, and updating the program team on progress. You will also be involved in problem-solving, equipment maintenance, and calibrations.

Requirements
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A to C including Maths and Science and 1 A-Level grade A-C in a Maths or Science subject or equivalent qualifications;
- Strong MS Excel knowledge;
- Excellent numeracy and literacy;
- Troubleshooting skills;
- Ability to work unsupervised and take ownership of tasks;
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills within the team;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Competent use of Email;
Desirable
- Experience of working in a geotechnical laboratory or within the geotechnical industry;
- A degree in a physical science, especially courses that have soil mechanics or mechanics of materials (strength of materials). Alternatively, significant relevant experience;
- Good knowledge of soil behavior and foundation engineering issues.
