Trade Union Congress is a prominent organization dedicated to providing support, representation, and a collective voice for its members. With a workforce of approximately 250 staff, we are committed to advocating for the interests of our diverse membership.

Role Overview

We are in search of a National Secretary to oversee, guide, and enhance a team located in our London office, primarily engaging with our public sector branches and employers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team, ensuring effective support and advice is provided to our members and branches.
  • Develop and implement our policy objectives and collective bargaining priorities across the public sector.
  • Utilize highly developed negotiation, lobbying, and influencing skills to advocate for our members.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior-level stakeholders in the public sector.
  • Contribute to public sector campaigning and networking activities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven negotiation skills and experience managing complex casework.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to manage staff effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with colleagues, representatives, and wider stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of contemporary approaches to member organization and recruitment.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of pensions, health and safety, and employment law.
  • A valid UK driving license.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Proficiency in IT, particularly with Microsoft Office/365, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience in project management and campaigning.

This position plays a crucial role in navigating the evolving landscape of the public sector, ensuring that our members' voices are effectively represented.
