Salary: £81,279 plus £1,308 lunch allowance (pro-rata)

The National Education Union (NEU) is a prominent advocate for change in the education sector, representing over 450,000 educators, support personnel, and leaders across various educational institutions in the UK.

We are looking for a highly skilled and qualified accountant to take on the role of Head of Finance, temporarily covering an internal secondment. This position is crucial for ensuring the effective operation of the Finance Department, with comprehensive responsibilities that include statutory reporting, management accounting, business collaboration, budgeting, and forecasting.

As the Head of Finance, you will also manage the administration of the staff pension scheme, payroll, procurement, and the financial aspects of the Union's commercial activities. Additionally, you will oversee the Union's investment strategies.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong professional background in finance, with proven leadership experience in managing a finance team within a large and intricate organization, preferably in a membership-based entity or trade union. You will be expected to provide strategic financial advice to senior leadership and the Union's Executive.

This role is best suited for a motivated professional with robust strategic management capabilities. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential, along with a commitment to the principles of the trade union movement. You will supervise four direct reports and have overall responsibility for an additional thirteen staff members.

Please note that the NEU promotes 'Blended Working Arrangements' for its office-based employees, requiring you to be present in the designated office for a majority of the week, with flexibility for remote work based on business requirements.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer favorable employment conditions, including 35 days of annual leave, holiday closure days, and a comprehensive pension scheme. Salary and benefits will be adjusted for part-time roles.
