We are seeking a talented and experienced individual to lead our Academic Consultancy Service, driving growth and excellence in commercial services for our academics.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering academic consultancy support, facility and equipment access agreements, and operating divisions across the institution. They will require a thorough knowledge of the University's policies and regulations to become the acknowledged University 'expert' in all aspects of the team's commercial services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver academic consultancy support, facility and equipment access agreements, and operating divisions across the institution.
- Engage with academics to inform them of the University's policies on academic consultancy and promote the benefits of using the Academic Consultancy Service.
- Grow enquiries year-on-year by finding new ways to reach out to and engage academics, and maximise opportunities to grow exposure to commercial offerings.
- Provide guidance on the suitability of new innovative services or activities, and build a creative and compliant framework for their delivery.
- Negotiate fee rates for academics and ensure that risk factors are mitigated, reputational and ethics issues are considered, and that any realisable intellectual property has been accounted for.
- Take full financial responsibility for the £3 million turnover per annum Academic Consultancy Service, including growing turnover and profit year-on-year.
Requirements
We are looking for a talented, well-organised, entrepreneurial, and financially astute individual with proven experience in managing and growing a comparable commercial business unit. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills, and be able to devise innovative solutions to issues, prioritise workload, and run a number of competing projects simultaneously.
What We Offer
Depending on experience, but likely to be in the range of £60k pa, plus a bonus of up to 15% pa (half based on company performance, and half based on individual performance).
