We are seeking an Activity Worker to join our Psychiatric Intensive Care Team. This is an exciting opportunity as our team is expanding and evolving to better serve our patients.

Key Responsibilities


• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to develop, organize, and implement ward-based activity programs tailored to individual and group needs within the Psychiatric Intensive Care unit.

• Offer specialized support to patients while working closely with the MDT.

• Maintain a respectful and non-judgmental approach towards patients, emphasizing dignity and understanding.

• Facilitate ward-based activities that encourage recovery, enhance independence, and are meaningful to patients.

• Contribute to the creation of a comprehensive ward activity program that promotes patient involvement and choice, featuring a variety of therapeutic and age-appropriate activities.

• Design and implement health improvement initiatives for patients.

• Assist medical and nursing staff with physical health monitoring tasks.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities

**Main Purpose of Job:** To deliver a diverse range of ward-based activities for all patients within the Psychiatric Intensive Care unit, including health promotion and monitoring.
**Position in Organization:** Report directly to the Unit Manager and the Occupational Therapist.
**Scope and Authority:** Under the guidance of the Unit Manager and Occupational Therapist, take initiative in planning and executing designated group activities. Undertake additional reasonable duties as requested by senior staff.

• Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

• Align your work with the Trust's strategic objectives.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential Criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualifications and/or experience.
  • PMVA Qualification or a commitment to complete it (Trust funded).
Desirable Criteria
  • Evidence of further education or qualifications in areas such as art, music, or reminiscence.
Experience Essential Criteria
  • Recent experience in healthcare, care homes, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and facilitating group activities.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a health, social care, or related environment.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in mental health or dementia services.
  • Familiarity with working in a mental health inpatient unit.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary mental health team.
Knowledge Essential Criteria
  • Understanding of dementia and other mental health challenges.
  • Recognizing the significance of meaningful activities in promoting well-being.
  • Ability to design appropriate activities to meet patient needs.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of engaging community groups, arts, or organizations.
Skills and Abilities Essential Criteria
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly, utilizing initiative.
  • Proficient in providing clear verbal instructions and presenting written information effectively.
