We are seeking an Activity Worker to join our Psychiatric Intensive Care Team. This is an exciting opportunity as our team is expanding and evolving to meet the needs of our service users.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to design, implement, and facilitate ward-based activity programs tailored to individual and group needs within the Psychiatric Intensive Care unit.
• Provide specialized support to patients while working in partnership with the MDT.
• Maintain a respectful and non-judgmental approach towards patients, ensuring their dignity is upheld.
• Engage in ward-based activities that foster recovery and promote independence among patients.
• Contribute to the creation of a comprehensive ward activity program that encourages participation and choice, offering a variety of therapeutic and age-appropriate activities.
• Develop and promote health improvement initiatives for patients.
• Assist medical and nursing staff with physical health monitoring tasks.
Our team is dedicated to providing short-term intensive assessment, treatment, and support to individuals experiencing mental health crises, often presenting with complex needs.
To enhance service user recovery, we adopt a trauma-informed approach and utilize a model of care focused on recovery. Our goal is to ensure patient safety while working in the least restrictive manner possible.
New team members will receive both mandatory and tailored training to equip them with the necessary skills for success in our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.
Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities **Main Purpose of the Role:** To deliver a varied program of ward-based activities for all patients in the Psychiatric Intensive Care unit, including health promotion and monitoring.
**Position in Organization:** Report to the Unit Manager and Occupational Therapist.
**Scope and Authority:** Operate autonomously under the guidance of the Unit Manager and Occupational Therapist, planning and executing designated group activities. Undertake additional reasonable duties as requested by senior staff.
• Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
• Align your work with the Trust's strategic objectives.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience.
- PMVA Qualification or commitment to complete it (Trust funded).
- Evidence of further education or qualifications in areas such as art, music, or reminiscence.
- Recent experience in healthcare or a related field.
- Proven experience in coordinating and facilitating group activities.
- Experience working collaboratively within a health or social care team.
- Experience in mental health or dementia services.
- Background in a mental health inpatient setting.
- Experience in a multidisciplinary mental health team.
- Understanding of dementia and various mental health challenges.
- Recognizing the significance of meaningful activities in promoting well-being.
- Ability to design appropriate activities to meet patient needs.
- Knowledge of engaging community groups, arts, or organizations.
