Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Healthcare Assistant to support our clinical team in providing patient care services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient and practice information.
  • Prepare consulting rooms and treatment rooms, and maintain stock of examination instruments and specimen collection material.
  • Ensure that consumables are in date in consulting rooms, and dispose of clinical waste.
  • Record and reset vaccine refrigerator temperatures daily.
  • Take and record blood pressures according to protocol, and also record smoking status, heights, and weights of patients.
  • Prepare forms and other documents associated with patient services, and ensure that patients understand what is required of them.
  • Perform phlebotomy, including glucose tolerance tests for patients, and complete paperwork relating to these specimens and record in patient record.
  • Fitting/removing 24hr BP monitors.
  • Under supervision by a qualified nurse, calibrate the coagucheck machine as per practice protocol before each anticoagulation clinic, obtain a sample of blood from the patient's finger, and document the results in the yellow book.
  • Perform electrocardiography according to the practice protocol.
  • Undertake new patient and NHS Health Checks according to practice policy.
  • Undertake Diabetic annual review checks in line with practice protocol.
  • Act as Chaperone when required by clinician.
  • Assist in the ophthalmology clinic.
  • Inputting, updating, and extracting patient data from the practice computer system.
  • Assist with audits as required.
  • Attend training sessions and team meetings as required for professional development.
  • Dispose of clinical waste and sharps according to practice policy.
  • Housekeeping functions as per the protocol, including changing pillowcases, wiping down the whole of three Hyfrecators, cleaning the weighing scales, cleaning the ECG machine, cleaning the medical gas equipment, and wiping down the inside of the BP Monitor cuffs.
  • Vaccine/Cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.
  • Any other clinical task as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the practice.
  • Urinalysis.
  • General observations, BM monitoring, pulse, and O2 sats.
  • Baby weighing.
  • Dermatology photographs.
  • Assist in coil fitting clinics.
  • Assist in minor op clinics.
Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Qualified to NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
    • GCSE Grade A to C in English and Maths.
    • Care Certificate.
  • Desirable:
    • Qualified in Phlebotomy.
    • Qualified to NVQ Level 3.
