Position Summary

Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) is seeking a Senior Manager for Control Testing to enhance our team. The Control Testing unit is responsible for providing primary risk assurance over Operations, ensuring that essential controls are routinely evaluated to verify their design and effectiveness in promoting positive client outcomes. The Senior Manager will oversee the operations and management of the Control Testing team, delivering a risk-focused control testing strategy aligned with HL's control standards.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Client Quality Assurance and Control Testing, you will lead a team of Control Testers/Specialists, delivering independent evaluations of key control effectiveness across Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to be instrumental in establishing a new team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing control testing standards in accordance with HL's risk management framework while managing the documentation, frameworks, and standards of the Control Testing team.
  • Overseeing the execution of the monthly control test plan, balancing resources, capacity, and risk across control, as well as targeted and thematic risk-based testing.
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement and data collection for planning, while supporting the team in fostering strong relationships with key individuals.
  • Assessing team performance by evaluating efficiency and quality, continuously striving to enhance control testing processes and utilizing technology effectively.
  • Collaborating proactively with client-facing and operational teams, using root cause analysis from control testing to inform control improvements and risk management.
  • Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships through feedback sessions.
  • Leading projects aimed at enhancing the overall delivery and risk management control testing methodology.
  • Driving local and wider organizational change, taking charge of solution design, and formulating recommendations and business cases.
  • Specific oversight of QA/Controls Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA).

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated leadership and line management experience.
  • Experience in first-line risk and control testing within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Proven ability to lead control testing initiatives.
  • Effective decision-making skills, considering control, client, and risk implications.
  • Capability to plan, manage, and adapt to varying workloads for both self and team.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and assess risk/client impact.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling positive engagement with colleagues at all levels and effectively influencing change and improvements in control.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks, particularly FCA rules, GDPR, and DPA.

Interview Process

The selection process will consist of two stages, including competency-based inquiries and a presentation.

Work Schedule

This is a permanent, full-time position with a standard workweek of 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. While we have returned to the office, this role offers a hybrid flexible working arrangement.
