Role Summary

Hargreaves Lansdown is currently in search of a Senior Manager for Control Testing to enhance our team. The Control Testing division is responsible for providing primary risk assurance over Operations, ensuring that essential controls are routinely evaluated to verify their design and effectiveness in achieving favorable client outcomes. The Senior Manager will oversee the operations and management of the Control Testing team while executing a risk-focused control testing strategy aligned with HL's control standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Client QA and Control Testing and will manage a team of Control Testers/Specialists, delivering independent assessments of key control effectiveness across Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in establishing a new team.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Implementing control testing standards consistent with HL's risk management framework and overseeing the maintenance of the Control Testing team's documentation and standards.
  • Monitoring and managing the execution of the monthly control test plan, balancing resources, capacity, and risk across various testing initiatives.
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement and data collection for planning while supporting the team in building effective relationships.
  • Assessing team performance by evaluating efficiency and quality, continuously seeking to enhance control testing processes and utilizing technology.
  • Collaborating proactively with client-facing and operational teams, using root cause analysis from control testing to inform control improvements and risk management.
  • Building and nurturing stakeholder relationships through feedback sessions and supporting projects aimed at enhancing the overall control testing methodology.
  • Driving local initiatives and supporting broader changes, taking ownership of solution design and making informed recommendations.
  • Specific oversight of QA/Controls RCSA.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated leadership and line management experience.
  • Experience in first-line risk and control testing within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Proven ability to lead control testing projects effectively.
  • Capable of making informed decisions considering control, client, and risk implications.
  • Adept at planning, managing, and adapting to varying workloads for both self and team.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and assess risk/client impact.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of engaging positively with colleagues at all levels and driving change.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks, particularly FCA rules, GDPR, and DPA.

Interview Process

The selection process will consist of two stages, including competency-based questions and a presentation.

Work Schedule

This is a permanent, full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. While we have returned to the office, this role offers a hybrid flexible working arrangement.
