Transform Lives Through Community Service

Are you eager to embark on a fulfilling career that empowers individuals to make meaningful changes in their lives while enhancing community safety? A position in community payback offers you the unique opportunity to positively influence the lives of offenders and contribute to the betterment of your community.

Community Payback (CP) serves as more than just an alternative to incarceration; it is a pathway to fostering improved outcomes for individuals on probation and revitalizing communities. As a Community Payback Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in guiding teams engaged in diverse community service projects. Your leadership will assist participants in maximizing their time on Community Payback, whether it involves acquiring new skills for employment or exploring strategies to minimize reoffending.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve supervising and motivating groups of individuals on probation as they undertake various community tasks. These activities may include:

  • Enhancing public safety through community initiatives
  • Restoring and maintaining community facilities such as sports complexes and playgrounds

Expect to operate a vehicle to transport participants and equipment, while providing clear instructions for each task. You will exemplify best practices and ensure that all assignments are executed to a high standard. Collaboration with partner organizations will be essential, and you must remain cognizant of the public nature of your role. Additionally, you will oversee health and safety protocols and maintain accurate records.

Candidate Profile

While qualifications are valuable, personal attributes are paramount. You should be prepared to serve as a positive role model, possessing the ability to connect with a diverse range of individuals. Confidence in supervising small groups and maintaining discipline is crucial. A passion for sharing skills and knowledge in areas such as construction, painting, or horticulture is highly desirable.

Working with a varied group of individuals requires empathy, strong communication skills, and a willingness to take the lead. Your commitment to supporting offenders on their journey to rehabilitation and improving community welfare is essential. Whether it involves constructing benches or cleaning public spaces, your motivation stems from a genuine desire to assist others.

Every day presents new challenges in this dynamic and impactful role, so you should thrive in problem-solving situations. As Community Payback groups operate seven days a week, weekend availability is required. A valid driving license is essential.

Training and Benefits

We are committed to your professional development through comprehensive training. Prior to commencing your role, you will receive instruction on various topics, including first aid, health and safety, risk management, and handling challenging behaviors. You will also gain a diverse set of transferable skills, such as coaching and mentoring.

If you seek career advancement, opportunities exist to progress into Community Payback management and senior leadership positions. The practical experience you acquire while working with individuals on probation will serve as an excellent foundation for those interested in becoming probation services officers or pursuing qualifications as a probation officer. Furthermore, you will have access to a variety of roles within the Probation Service, including positions in court systems or working with crime victims.

Your dedication will be rewarded with stable employment and benefits, including flexible working arrangements, an attractive occupational pension (Local Government Pension Scheme), paid sick leave, and 25 days of paid vacation in addition to public holidays.

A career in community payback empowers you to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of offenders and your community.
