The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Services Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Child Protective Services (CPS) unit, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct home visits to assess the safety and risk of children, and provide support and guidance to families to prevent child abuse and neglect.
- Collaborate with social workers and other professionals to develop and implement case plans that address the needs of children and families.
- Provide education and resources to families on topics such as child development, parenting, and community resources.
- Engage with community partners to ensure families have access to necessary services and support.
- Document and maintain accurate records of case activities and outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of experience in social work or a related field, preferably in child welfare or family support services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
- Master's degree in social work or a related field.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly in Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL).
- Experience working with children and families in a home-based setting.
