Swindon, Swindon, United Kingdom Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a part of our well-established, innovative, and supportive Spinal team. We are seeking a part-time professional to contribute 16 hours per week. This team is guided by highly skilled spinal specialists, with additional support from the Clinical Team Lead, who will facilitate your training and development through the Advanced Practitioner portfolio route or the HEE APP MSc, ensuring dedicated non-clinical time is included in your role.

The team comprises two seasoned spinal consultants who collaborate with therapists during regular multidisciplinary team meetings and joint clinics.

In this role, you will be encouraged to cultivate a non-medical referral capacity and will receive support to pursue training in injection therapy if desired.

If you are interested, we welcome you to visit and explore our new department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance your clinical and professional capabilities, adhering to the principles and operational policies of the GWH team. Collaborate with the Advanced Practitioner team and team lead to ensure effective prioritization of patients based on clinical requirements.
  • Design and implement care packages for patients experiencing musculoskeletal (MSK) dysfunction, providing essential advice that aids in the diagnosis and management of these conditions.
  • Conduct specialized assessments and develop the necessary skills to identify when patients may require advanced diagnostic procedures, including imaging and laboratory tests, while honing your investigative and analytical abilities to interpret results.
  • Exhibit advanced physical skills in the assessment and treatment of patients, including techniques such as palpation, mobilization, manipulation, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and injection therapy.
  • Coordinate a variety of complex activities related to the management of musculoskeletal patients, which often necessitates adjusting plans and strategies in collaboration with orthopedic colleagues, general practitioners, and patients to formulate a comprehensive action plan.
  • Effectively communicate the physiotherapy perspective regarding a patient's medical condition to medical colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team, negotiating various management options as necessary.

About Our Organization

Our STAR values - Service, Teamwork, Ambition, and Respect - are integral to our operations. These values guide us in our mission to provide exceptional, integrated services to our local community. Whether in the home, community, or hospital setting, our aim is to empower individuals to lead independent and healthier lives.

Job Duties

  • Analyze complex information and indicators related to the assessment of musculoskeletal dysfunction, often requiring a comparison of conservative and surgical options.
  • Initiate actions with autonomy, frequently advising physicians and physiotherapists on suitable courses of action.
  • Develop extended clinical responsibilities beyond the standard scope of physiotherapy, including therapeutic joint injections and independent ordering and interpretation of imaging results.
  • Engage in evidence-based projects, research, and audits under the guidance of the advanced practitioner team to inform and enhance practice.
  • Support the professional growth of colleagues at all levels through teaching, supervision, and in-service training, serving as a specialist resource for the management of complex MSK conditions.
