Job Overview:

The Power Plant Operator will oversee the energy management systems across various facilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring steam flow metrics, oil and gas consumption, CO2 levels, and operational temperatures.
  • Conducting corrective maintenance on steam systems, addressing issues such as leaks in ball joints, expansion joints, valves, and piping.
  • Performing maintenance on potable water systems, including pumps, motors, and control mechanisms.
  • Executing preventive maintenance tasks for boiler systems, including draft gauges, burners, and soot blowers.
  • Maintaining feed water pumps, hot well pumps, and DA tanks through regular checks.
  • Supervising the power plant mechanic during assigned shifts to ensure safety and efficiency in task execution.
  • Participating in the hiring process and evaluating employee performance.
  • Maintaining accurate daily logs and chemical readings using computer systems.
  • Responding to emergency repair requests and determining necessary actions.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. A strong background in steam and power plant equipment is essential, along with familiarity with pressure vessel boilers, water treatment processes, and auxiliary mechanical operations. Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience in utility or industrial power production systems.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Proficiency with SCADA Automation Systems and troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to analyze system performance to enhance energy efficiency.
  • Physical capability to perform inspections and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity for operating vehicles and equipment.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in a university environment is advantageous.
