We are seeking an experienced Specialty Doctor to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Harrow, providing high-quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist. As a Specialty Doctor in Community Psychiatry, you will have the opportunity to progress your career to Consultant level through our prestigious CESR programme.

Cygnet Hospital Harrow provides a recovery-focused service treating a wide range of mental health problems. We offer specialist diagnostic, assessment, and inpatient services for individuals with mental health needs and dual diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

This role will be based on our 12-bed male acute service, where high staffing levels enable us to help people stabilize and return to the community or the least restrictive environment as quickly as possible.

As a Specialty Doctor in Community Psychiatry, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team actively encouraged and supported to complete Quality Improvement Projects. You will also have excellent opportunities to progress your career through support to complete MRCPsych exams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
  • Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
  • Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
  • Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
  • Participate in 1:7 On-call rota

Requirements:
  • Experienced within a mental health setting
  • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent
