Job Summary

The Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join our team in Acute/Emergency Psychiatry. This is a fixed-term locum position, working across two innovative services: the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS) and the Health-Based Place of Safety Service (HBPOS).

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance to the nursing team during working hours.
  • Lead on mental health act assessments and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Work flexibly across the two services to support patient needs.
  • Provide informal advice and clinical supervision to junior medical colleagues.
  • Assist in ensuring an appropriate program of activity for medical students attached to the team.
  • Collaborate with inpatient ward teams, community recovery teams, and local crisis teams to ensure continuity of care for patients.
  • Assess patients under the Mental Health Act and inform the clinical lead of any concerns regarding clinical care.
  • Contribute to audit and quality improvement projects within the Trust.
Requirements
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry.
  • Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility).
  • Registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing.
  • Shared Services training up to date to be an approved trainer/clinical supervisor.
  • Specialist accreditation in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Old Age Psychiatry.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Other relevant post-graduate qualification.
  • Trained as an Educational Supervisor for doctors in training.
  • Liaison psychiatry accreditation.
Key Skills and Abilities
  • Teaching and supervision skills for undergraduate medical students, doctors in training, and multi-professional staff.
  • Experience in undertaking clinical audit, investigating serious incidents, and handling complaints.
  • Good knowledge of and ability to use both spoken and written English.
  • Ability to organize workload and manage time, delegate responsibility where appropriate.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of all patients and carers.
