Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring that all assigned responsibilities are executed to the utmost standard. This position is integral in supporting registered nursing staff to enhance patient outcomes, aligning with the mission and quality benchmarks of the Health Board.

The role encompasses the provision of a thorough nursing service, which includes managing chronic illnesses, engaging in public health initiatives, and offering first-contact nursing services within secure environments. The post holder will coordinate care requirements for patients, ensuring a holistic approach to health management.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will assist the Nurse Manager in the advancement of nursing services, contributing to the overall development of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be accountable for delivering fundamental nursing services to the patient population, under the guidance and supervision of senior nursing staff. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing patient care within clinical environments, optimizing resource utilization.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures, adhering to Health Board standards.
  • Administering medications in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Responding promptly to medical emergencies and ensuring the availability of emergency equipment.
  • Supporting and supervising junior nursing staff, student nurses, and healthcare assistants.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with professional standards and data protection regulations.
  • Upholding the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring evidence-based practice.
  • Engaging in personal and professional development to meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
