Job Title: Drainage and Flood Risk Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Drainage and Flood Risk Engineer to join our team at United Utilities. As a key member of our wastewater network team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of our drainage systems, minimizing the risk of flooding and pollution incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the custodian of the drainage for your respective area, ensuring compliance with all Wastewater Network policies, procedures, Environment Agency protocol, and regulatory requirements.
  • Improve drainage performance by providing technical input into planned programmes of work, reducing the number of reactive flooding and pollution incidents, and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure regulatory data recorded in Wastewater Incident Reporting System (WIRS) is reliable, accurate, and complete.
  • Respond to reactive work on the Wastewater drainage network, monitoring further work recommendations to control spend within your district(s).
  • Act as the Responsible Person for all health and safety related matters associated with activities undertaken on the wastewater network.
  • Identify investment needs on the wastewater network, creating problem notes for Very Small Projects (VSP'S) or Mitigation.
  • Ensure sewer records are updated and accurate, providing day-to-day technical support and advice to field teams.
  • Reduce customer complaints by proactively managing the Wastewater Network, ensuring the Pollution risk management database is kept up to date.
  • Manage incidents within the drainage area, maintaining awareness of the availability of M&E assets in the area.
  • Participate on the standby rota.

Requirements:

  • HNC in civil engineering (or related subject) is essential.
  • Degree in civil engineering (or related subject) is desirable.
  • Membership of a professional institute (Civil / Water Industry) is desirable.
  • Awareness of Confined Space Regulations 1997 is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of day-to-day sewer operation and maintenance techniques.
  • Good understanding of sewerage law and its practical implementation.
  • Excellent understanding of the regulatory contact with Ofwat.
  • Ability to plan in the short to medium term.
  • Good understanding of Wastewater Network policies and procedures.
  • Full UK driving licence.
