Job Title: IT Infrastructure Support Technician

At Shorterm Group, we are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Support Technician to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for our corporate IT infrastructure and projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for our corporate and customer-managed IT infrastructure and projects.
  • Work as part of the IT team to deliver a quality 24/7 service to internal users and nominated customer gateways, servers, and laptops.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, operating systems, software, and applications.
  • Assist in the administration of corporate servers and applications.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly duties as requested by the IT Operations Manager.
Key Tasks:
  • Build laptops and PCs according to internal and customer specifications, ensuring they meet IT security policies and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure the smooth running and patching of the desktop environment, monitoring usage and performance.
  • Manage and support onsite A/V equipment, including video conferencing and projectors.
  • Follow departmental change control processes and procedures.
  • Work within the remit of cyber security policies.
  • Assist with the administration of nominated customer IT equipment and networks.
  • Be part of the support team for client users, fault-finding and solving problems.
  • Work with external suppliers to assist with problem resolution.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call IT rota, responding to emergencies and site visits.
Support the IT Infrastructure Engineers:
  • Support the IT hosting infrastructure, including storage, virtual environments, email, and backups.
  • Support the IT security infrastructure, including antivirus, update/patch management, and web filtering.
  • Support the telephony equipment and servers, installing telephones on desks.
  • Support the remote working environment, including VPNs and RDP.
Asset Management Responsibilities:
  • Maintain user assets inventory and update changes when kit is moved or deployed within the company.
  • Maintain software compliance for all desktop operating systems, desktop applications, and client licenses.
IT Strategy:
  • Assist in CyberEssentials audits and strategize policies for ISMS.
  • Continuously evaluate existing processes and procedures to ensure desktop support is carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards for desktop procurement and development efforts.
Requirements:
  • HND/degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related discipline, or at least 5 years of applicable experience in a demanding environment.
  • Broad range of technical skills in diverse IT hardware and business applications.
  • Sound technical knowledge of core Microsoft Windows 10/11 desktop environments, including building, troubleshooting, and patching.
  • Sound technical knowledge of Windows Server 2019/2022 administration skills.
  • Good understanding of IT security, including antivirus, hard drive encryption, and authentication.
  • Experience of Microsoft Exchange and email services, including spam filtering and cloud continuity/messaging services.
  • Previous experience in 1st/2nd line support roles.
  • Ability to achieve Security Clearance (SC/DV).
Desirable:
  • Sound technical knowledge of Windows Group Policies and Active Directory.
  • Sound technical knowledge of endpoint management, security, and virtual environments.
  • Experience of administering and supporting Mitel phone systems.
  • Relevant Microsoft qualifications.
  • Experience of administering and supporting mobile device management (MDM).
