Program Director – Catalyser – Renewable Energy – London

We are seeking an influential Program Director to lead the implementation of our client's operations in Sudan, acting as the primary liaison with the government, donor partners, and local business sector.

Our client, a leading NGO, is committed to financing innovative enterprises across Sub-Saharan Africa to promote economic growth and resilience in rural communities.

As an ideal candidate, you possess a strong private equity background, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in supporting SMEs. Your familiarity with the Sudanese market and key stakeholders enables you to effectively identify and onboard support businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and lead a team of portfolio officers, ESG compliance personnel, and support staff in collaboration with operational teams based in East Africa
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies with local partners to ensure that the SME sector, government stakeholders, and donors are informed about the programme's life cycle
  • Build strong relationships with donors to facilitate collaboration with other SME development initiatives in the region
  • Identify and engage with technical partners, including financial institutions and business service providers, to design and deliver essential support services for the programme
  • Navigate the complex Sudanese political environment to ensure the programme's uninterrupted progression without external disruptions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, international development, or any relevant degree
  • 5+ years of experience in creating and implementing financing mechanisms for SMEs in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Proven experience in private sector development, particularly in agriculture, renewable energy, and climate adaptation
  • Understanding of SME landscape of Sudan
  • Understanding of the Sudanese Political Environment
  • Expertise in grant or investment management in Sudan, including the preparation of investment proposals and guiding applicants through investment committees
  • Experience managing large and complex grant or investment programs
