Laboratory Technician

Main Function / Purpose of Job:

  • Conduct physical testing of automotive interior trim products in a laboratory setting.
  • Support the Laboratory Manager and report on key performance metrics.
  • Perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations.
  • Execute routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses as required.
  • Prepare specimens and samples for testing.
  • Construct holding fixtures, maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment, such as gloss meters, microscopes, and tensile machines.
  • Perform measurements using traditional measurement equipment, e.g. micrometers, calipers, DTIs, etc.
  • Conduct laboratory testing using a variety of test equipment.
  • Analyze data, using statistical techniques to evaluate product performance and generate informative reports.
  • Record and interpret results to present to senior colleagues.
  • Prepare reports and present findings.
  • Utilize problem-solving techniques to assist in internal and external quality concerns, leveraging multifunctional team support.
  • Support customer sites as required.
  • Ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks are followed.

Main Missions and Results:

  • Assist in the control and maintenance of the laboratory facility and equipment.
  • Assist in the control and maintenance of laboratory records in line with requirements.
  • Perform quality control checks in accordance with specified schedules.
  • Assist in 5S initiatives in the laboratory facility and associated areas.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Previous laboratory experience in physical testing, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Ability to work independently, using initiative to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge.
  • Ability to use technical equipment accurately.
  • Ability to review data and generate informative reports.
  • Make informed decisions based on data and risk evaluation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding, slush molding, paint, and assembly high-volume processes is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of problem-solving techniques is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of statistical techniques is desirable.
