About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Support Technician to join our team at the University of Birmingham. As a Laboratory Support Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our research laboratories.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to researchers and students in the laboratory
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
  • Assist with the development and implementation of laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Provide training and support to students and researchers on laboratory procedures and equipment
Requirements
  • GCSE (A*- C / 4-9 or equivalent) Mathematics, English & Science, NVQ Level 2, BTEC Level 2 or equivalent
  • Practical experience of relevant techniques/skills required for the post or previous laboratory based experience
  • Positive service attitude and shows courtesy in dealing with others
  • Ability to organize and manage own workload after consultation with supervisor and demonstrate flexibility in terms of work practices/requirements
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to learn and understand how diversity considerations affect own area
  • Awareness of current relevant H&S policies
  • Basic understanding of commonly used software packages
